Kesha’s first music in 4 years is out! “Praying” sits already at No. 25 on the Bilboard Hot 100.Kesha’s Comeback Needed To Be This Strong — And She Knew It. Uproxx writes:

If there is no God to guide them toward the light, then, at least there is a song.

The new LP will be named Rainbow, and Huffington Post‘s contributor,
Shaylynn Hayes seems to be impressed with the first impression of the new songs:

While Rainbow has yet to drop, we have been blessed with the first two singles from Kesha’s album. “Praying”, aptly ending with the words “The beginning” is a song that I can’t get out of my head.

Telegraph‘s journalist Eleanor Muffitt writes that Kesha just changed the story for sexual assault survivors like herself:

Although she doesn’t name and shame in her new single Praying, which she released last week, it’s clear that Kesha is singing about her tumultuous legal battle with her former producer, Lukasz ‘Dr Luke’ Gottwald, who in 2014 she accused of sexual assault and battery, sexual harassment and two counts of rape (he countersued and she eventually dropped the charges after a lengthy and complicated series of events).

Esquire’s journalist Tyler Coates concludes:

Looking beyond the deeply emotional lyrics, you can hear Kesha’s vocal talent shining on the track—a bona fide vocal powerhouse, with the singer hitting an impressive high note when the song reaches its crescendo. Even someone who isn’t a true blue Kesha fan can hear a dramatic departure from her earlier work—there’s no talk of partying until dawn, of runnin’ ’til you’re out of time. Instead, it’s an emotional, dramatic reflection on pain and hopelessness—an empowering track in which she looks something who has wronged her dead in his eyes, singing, “You brought the flames and you put me through hell / I had to learn how to fight for myself.”

Kesha Praying lyrics

Well, you almost had me fooled
Told me that I was nothing without you
Oh, but after everything you’ve done
I can thank you for how strong I have become

‘Cause you brought the flames and you put me through hell
I had to learn how to fight for myself
And we both know all the truth I could tell
I’ll just say this is I wish you farewell

I hope you’re somewhere praying, praying
I hope your soul is changing, changing
I hope you find your peace
Falling on your knees, praying

I’m proud of who I am
No more monsters, I can breathe again
And you said that I was done
Well, you were wrong and now the best is yet to come
‘Cause I can make it on my own
And I don’t need you, I found a strength I’ve never known
I’ve been thrown out, I’ve been burned
When I’m finished, they won’t even know your name

You brought the flames and you put me through hell
I had to learn how to fight for myself
And we both know all the truth I could tell
I’ll just say this is I wish you farewell

I hope you’re somewhere praying, praying
I hope your soul is changing, changing
I hope you find your peace
Falling on your knees, praying

Oh, sometimes, I pray for you at night
Someday, maybe you’ll see the light
Oh, sometime, in life, you’re gonna get what you give
But some things, only God can forgive

I hope you’re somewhere praying, praying
I hope your soul is changing, changing
I hope you find your peace
Falling on your knees, praying

Kesha has also released “Woman“.
